Day 13

2/18/2015

Psalm 119:9 (ESV)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.

Meditative thoughts:
How am I managing my life; according to my own will or according to God’s Word?
When my way has not been pure, what peace does God provide as I turn to him for renewal and protection through Jesus?

From Higher Things Meditations: Matthew 6:1-6

"Beware of doing your righteousness before men to be seen by them. For then you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven." (Mt 6:1)

...when you feel ...the magnet-like urges, drawing you to be something that once was you but is no longer...stop and smile! Wash the tears off you face. Bury your temptations and failures in the tomb where Jesus lay for three days.

Your Father has seen your secret fasting today. He gives you your reward in full. He gives you His Son. Jesus is your Lent, your fast, the ashes on your forehead. He's the songs that you sing and the prayers you pray. Your sins won't kill you. They can't--they killed him instead! But He rose, and you have risen, too.

So now, it's all smiles and "happy Lent" to those around you today. The cross on your forehead is a baptismal one. Your forgiveness is Calvary-earned. His Body and Blood is a sin-freeing elixir that will keep you all the way to eternal life. You are saved, and today you have been Lented, that is you have been forgiven. In the Name of Jesus.
