Day 15

2/20/2015

Psalm 46:10-11   (ESV)
10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Meditative thoughts:
What is God inviting me to do, so that He can be God in my life?
Martin Luther based the hymn “A Mighty Fortress is our God” on this Psalm.  What verses help me sing today, and what would I write to reflect my security is in Jesus.  (See LSB #656)

From: I Want to Live These Days With You, Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Feb. 20

The Psalter assumes a unique position in all of Holy Scripture. It is God's Word, and at the same time it is, with few exceptions, human prayer. How are we to understand that?

We try first to repeat them personally as our own prayer, but soon we run into passages that we don't believe we can pray as a personal prayer for ourselves.

One thinks, for example, of the Psalms of innocence, the Psalms of revenge, and in part even the Psalms of suffering... We know that we can't pray these words...

The prayer of Psalms that does not want to pass over our lips--that puts us off, that stops us in our tracks--leads us to suspect that someone other than we ourselves is praying here, that the one who protests His innocence here - who calls in God's judgment - who has come into such unfathomable suffering, - is none other than Jesus Christ Himself.

LSB 656:2 -- With might of ours can naught be done,
Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the valiant One,
Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?
Jesus Christ it is, ...
