Day 25

3/2/2015

John 14:1  (ESV)  “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”

Meditative thoughts:
What have I been trusting or relying upon that fails to bring the peace that God brings?
What comfort and confidence does Jesus invite me to have through Him?

The setting for John 13-17 is the Upper Room, where Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples.

TLSB note: Jn 13:36-38 -- Peter thinks he is ready to follow Jesus, but Jesus says Peter will only deny Him. Peter's boldness was not due to faith but to egotistical bravado. In the end, Peter did offer his life for Christ, but only because Christ first offered His life for Peter--and for us too.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

John 14 1“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

TLSB note: Jn 14:1-14 -- Through his death and resurrection, Christ went to prepare a place for us in heaven, where we will dwell with God forever. The true God cannot be known apart from Jesus Christ. Because of Christ's work, we can know the Father and enter His eternal presence.
