Day 30

3/8/2015

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)  33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and will be added to you.

Meditative thoughts:
Consider what God reveals about Himself and righteousness through three avenues:  His Word, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and the Sacrament of the Altar.  In what ways does my Heavenly Father provide for me physically and spiritually?

Matthew 6:16-34 -- ...Our LORD reminds us, "will He [your Heavenly Father] not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" If God gave such beauty to the flowers, will He forget us for whom His Son died? This would be utter foolishness.

We have a much greater priority in life. Jesus lovingly directs us to put first the kingdom of God and His own righteousness. When through faith we are clothed in His righteousness, we bask in the forgiveness of sins. His Gospel and Sacraments are far more important than the physical things we need for this present time. Our Savior promises all these things to those who love and serve Him.

Eternal Father. You counsel us not to be anxious about earthly things. Keep alive in us a proper yearning for those heavenly treasures awaiting all who trust in Your mercy, that we may daily rejoice in Your salvation and serve You with constant devotion; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
